Zen
Lecture, Workshop & Performance

Three events in this programme will give you the chance to find out more about Zen. A lecture by Zen monk Seigaku will give you a general introduction. In a workshop, you can learn the first steps to this Japanese method of meditation, which can also be practiced in everyday life. Also, do not miss "Oryoki Tempatsu", a traditional meal ceremony that has been practiced in Japanese Zen temples for many generations.

Installation 「日常茶飯事」 "A Daily Occurrence"

"Oryokitempatsu"
An eating ceremony practiced in Zen temples for over 760 years, will be performed as an installation. Oryokitempatsu is usually not seen by public. It is done in a special hall in Zen temple. "It is to be seen by no one." Nevertheless the beautiful detailed manners have been inherited by Zen monks till this day. Zen is said to be the origin of many traditional Japanese arts, such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement and martial arts. The core of Japanese culture even sublimates eating into art. I deeply wish you will get a glimpse of what lies within this ceremony, a wisdom teaching how the whole world could live a sustainable, peaceful life together. (日常 daily life/ 茶→ tea/飯 →meal = 日常茶飯事 is a Japanese word expressing the ordinary things we do naturally in daily life.) (Text: Seigaku)
