Yoichiro OKUTANI's first contact with the dying popular culture of the festival side show was during his student days in Tokyo. He has been fascinated by the subject ever since and decided to turn it into a documentary feature. He accompanies the OTORA family, one of the last troupes in this line of work, on their tour across Japan and gives interesting insights into this rare profession.

DIRECTOR BIO

Yoichiro OKUTANI was born in Nakatsugawa, Gifu prefecture in 1978, but raised in Tokyo. He studied under documentary filmmaker Makoto SATO at the Film School of Tokyo. His debut feature CHILDREN OF SOLEIL was honoured with a special mention by the jury of the 2011 Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival.
